For the past twenty-five years,
Cindy Hogan has studied and worked as an actor, director, and producer. The last fifteen of those years, she has
drawn upon her own experiences to coach and teach both the business and craft of the industry. While her own personal
studies have included work in “The Method” on one extreme and “Meisner” on the other ( with many colors,
shades, and variations in between ), the direction of her own teaching is geared more to the individual and their own best
way of learning and working and not to any fixed method.
The purpose of her work is to lead actors into discovering their own personal freedom, to have them leave
judgment of themselves in the work far behind, and to live entirely in the moment. Cindy’s approach to each of these
may be completely different for each individual she teaches. She deals with the actor’s work through the eyes
of a director and believes that acting in all mediums comes from the same place.
As The A.C.T.I.N.G. Coach, Cindy gears her coaching towards
working in front of the camera. By that, we mean looking for a deeper level of reality in an actor’s work, a strong
connection to subtext, for the camera searches out the thoughts behind the eyes and the subtleties in the actor’s work:
the truth. In order for this to be present, the actors must learn to trust themselves and allow their impulses to flow
freely.
In most professions, every practitioner uses similar
tools and techniques, but the actor’s chief instrument is himself. Since no two people are alike, no universal rule
is applicable to any two actors in exactly the same way, thus Cindy focuses her coaching for each separate individual.
As a group, it is her desire to ignite the actor’s imagination and to discipline them in making the distinction of truth
in their choices, for the actor’s strength is in “being”.
Cindy draws on her diverse experience from working with networks such as NBC, ABC and
Nickelodeon as well as her copious training to cater to the individual needs of each actor. Working with celebrities
and developing talent alike, Cindy guides actors to discovering their own personal freedom.
